Hailing from Sheffield, the birthplace of Deathdoom Promotions, Flatlands album "Vermuyden" starts peacefully and melodically as it winds pleasantly upon it's journey .... and into a cavern of brutality and hard grinding riffs. Playing an enigmatic and very raw style of Doom Metal, Flatlands have a gruelling sound that grates on your mind yet appeals at the very same time. For the weak of heart or sensitive of character this album is not. "Vermuyden" will test your will power and your Metal sensibilities, and whilst not the best production and certainly not the best played Doom your ever likely to hear, Flatlands do come with a certain charm that makes them listenable. That though is only one side to Flatlands. You have of course the softer side, adding great variance and keeping their music forever fresh and interesting. "Vermuyden" whilst not exactly a pleasure to listen too, is an experience and one you should all have a chance at.
