"Songs For The Last View"
[Napalm Records]
First and foremost, is the singer of this band Ville Valo? Sure sounds like it. It's isn't an honest gripe though, and Napalm Records artist Lacrimas Profundere have a real abundance of talent. Their new release "Songs For The Last View" is straight up fast and catchy Gothic Rock through and through and with a slight 80's feel to the lyrics and vocal sound.
"The Last View" opens up procedings with a melodic fast paced track that merges immedietly into "Pearl" which save for a few harder riffs in the middle of the song which slow the tempo somewhat could be the exact same song. In fact so much alike are these songs that i had in fact unwittingly passed through "Pearl" and already finished off "The Shadow I Kissed" without even realising it. Luckily thogh although the content and overall jist of the album remains the same, "veins" does alter the mood somewhat and shows a slightly more intelligent side to the bands creativity. With a more industrial undertone but an equally fast and flowing sound is "We Shouldn't Be Here" and aptly enough maybe the band shouldn't, as this is the same style, the sound, hell it could be the same as any of the first three tracks.
I'm going to stop the song by song analysis here and instead finish with this. Lacrimas Profundere are without a doubt a band with bags full of talent and potental, and their sound is both easy on the ear and overwhelmingly pleasing, but if your looking for a band with a range in repetoire or creative genius then you need to look elsewhere. Granted some songs do differ like the sorrowful "And God's Ocean" which is a slow mourning like song that does the band a world of good as to keeping you interested, but generally I find there isn't much depth here.
"Songs For The Last View" is a good album for if you want to switch off or wind down after a hard day and the melodies that the band can conjour are seriously pleasing, and on that note I would recommend it.
