RED PAPER DRAGON - "Songs Of Innocence"

RED PAPER DRAGON
"Songs Of Innocence"
[Sound Devastation Records]

Hailing from the West Country where folksy wisdom comes forth in softly spoken accents, Sound Devastation's porgressive and experimental artist RED PAPER DRAGON come hither with their new release "Songs Of Innocence". Only a five track Ep this but despite some off key production the chilled and chilling rolling riff-age does come through with great prominence as opening track "Polar Bear" will testify too. The enthrallingly entitled "If Not Now, When?" brings forth some low key but suprisingly tantalising vocals and the sense that this band always does things at a slow pace, always takes their time and that their music always blossoms for it.

Red Paper Dragon have a real groove about them and also sport some almost jazz like interludes, but what most attracts me tot heir style of play is the freshness they keep in their sound at all times. "Fear Of Falling" brings a real heaviness to the bands style, an oppressive nature that blackens the mood and again keeps you guessing. not only that but the band also up their pace here and thats a great variance also. The only downside here is some of the vocals sound a little strained and tired. "..Happens For A Reason" is another chilling melodic song that again settles and soothes as it winds it's way onwards and the finale "Tidal" finishes off a very decent chillout CD.
